Introduction
Some signs your LCD cable may be faulty include a blank, black, or flickering screen, no backlight, or horizontal or vertical lines. These symptoms may also indicate that the LCD panel is faulty, rather than the cable itself.
Before attempting a display panel replacement, you may be able to resolve the issue using Lenovo’s troubleshooting guide.
Make sure to disable the internal battery, power down your device, and disconnect from any external power sources before you begin.

Thanks so much for this, Kristen. I managed to fix my T460 by replacing the LCD cable using this guide.
The symptoms were quite odd: the slightest movement of the laptop hinge (even a touch, sometimes) would cause the screen to go blank and the laptop to go into hibernation. I could get it back out again using the normal method (pressing the power button), but it was happening all the time. I guessed that it was the wiring of the LCD cable causing this, so I replaced it with a branded Lenovo replacement and now it works fine.
