Laptop feels hot/warm to touch
To check to see if your laptop has adequate cooling through your keyboard and side vents.
Start off by looking at your keyboard, look between the keys for any dust or debris that might be blocking the air traveling through your keys to the cooling fan. If there is any dust, use a can of air to clean out the dust within your keyboard or any food crumbs.
Secondly, check your side vents and make sure there isn’t a build up of dust around the vent. Remove the dust with a can of air. You want to keep the side vents cleaned because the air coming through the vents is the air discharged from the cooling fan.
The laptop could easily be overheating due to the usage of the laptop is outside or near a window that sunlight is directly on. First bring the laptop inside or move it away from the window and let the device cool down. If the computer doesn’t cool off by a considerable amount of time. Continue reading the next paragraph.
The laptop may be overheating due to the Cooling Fan has stopped working. Inside the laptop, the Battery, Motherboard, and Processor all generate heat within the laptop. The cooling fan purpose to cool off the internal hardware. So, the heat generated by internal hardware will be noticed by the user if the Cooling Fan is not functional. When the laptop is plugged in, it does not charge or hold battery life.
To ensure that the power cord is not faulty, check for exposed wires, or breaks along the cord. Ensure that the adapter fits into the correct port on the computer. If the computer is plugged in and receiving a charge, there will be a message: “plugged in, charging.” If there is no power going to the computer from the cord, the message will read: “plugged in, not charging.”
The computer may not have the driver that supports the battery to charge properly. Utilize this link: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloa… to download the latest version of software for the computer. Once the latest version has been installed, plug in the power cord to see if the computer starts charging.
The computer may need the power setting reset. To do this, turn the computer off and unplug the power cord. Then, using the link provided, remove the Battery from the computer entirely. Once the computer is unplugged and the battery is no longer in, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. After holding for 30 seconds, release the button, return the battery to the computer, and plug it in. Turn on the computer to see if it has started charging.
The software that comes on the memory chip may be out of date and may be stopping your computer from charging. Go to https://support.lenovo.com/ and allow it to detect your computer. Navigate to the product page that matches your product and click on “Driver and Software” then to “BIOS”. Follow the on screen directions from the set-up wizard. Once the BIOS has been updated, plug in the computer to see if it begins charging.
When the laptop screen goes black.
The computer screen goes black it may be a brightness issue. Turn up the brightness to see if the computer will turn on.
Press the power button until the computer shuts down. Give it 30 seconds and restart the computer. If the black screen is gone, then the issue is fixed.
If the screen still shows black, then turn off the laptop. Unplug the charger and remove the battery. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. After finishing that, re plug the computer to see if it can boot the bios system. This is pressing F1 or F2 keys. It is successfully booted, shut down the computer and put the battery in the computer. Restart the computer and see if the issue is fixed.
DVD or CD will not play when inserted into disk drive.
To ensure the drive is receiving power, open the disk drive and examine the empty drive for an activity light. If the drive is functioning properly, the light will be on and the drive will open.
The disk itself may be dirty or scratched. Try cleaning the disk and reinserting it into the drive. If the disk still does not work, try another disk that is clean or known to work properly.
The disk may not be secure within the drive. To ensure the disk is set properly, press down gently in the disk to lock it in place and try to spin the disk. If the disk spins freely, it is set properly, if the disk does not spin freely, pick up the disk and reset it into the drive.
Some disks, mostly CD’s, are not able to boot up on certain disk drives, to ensure this is not the issue, try a disk that is known to be bootable. Most antivirus or malware software disks are bootable and will work on every disk drive.
Laptop runs but powers on slowly and runs programs slowly.
To ensure there are no foreign particles slowing the laptop down internally, take the time to clean the device with a compressed air can or by blowing into the fan exhaust.
To ensure that the hard drive is running properly, perform a surface test to determine the speed at which your hard drive processes data. If you determine the drive is slow, consider purchasing another one or replacing the current hard drive for a larger one.
Consider uninstalling unused programs to reduce load on your hard drive.
