Introduction
Make sure that the Vive Cosmos is powered off and disconnected from power before beginning disassembly.
What you need
Step 1
Remove the facerest
- Pull the bottom of the facerest straight away from the Vive Cosmos to unclip it from the Vive.
- With the bottom unclipped, pull the top of the facerest away from the Vive to remove it.

Unplug the audio connector
- Twist the 3.5 mm audio connector counter-clockwise slightly and slide its cable out from under the plastic retaining clip.
- Lift the audio connector straight up to unplug it.

Remove the front headstrap pad
- Grasp one end of the front headstrap pad and pull it away from the headstrap to remove it.
- During reassembly, press the pads firmly against the headstrap, starting in the middle and moving toward the edges, until all the clips on the pads are completely seated in the headstrap. There should be no gaps between the pads and the headstrap.

Remove the audio cables
- Carefully lift the audio connector cable out of its slot in the front of the headstrap.

Remove the headstrap
- Use a T5 Torx drive to remove the ten 4.1 mm long screws securing the headstrap.

- Remove the headstrap.

Release the faceplate switch
- Use your finger to push the sliding faceplate release switch, sitting to the left of the lenses, toward the bottom of the Vive.

Remove the faceplate
- While holding the switch in the bottom position, pull the faceplate straight up and away from the front of the Vive.

Remove the headstrap hinge
- Use a T5 Torx driver to remove the three 4.1 mm long screws securing the headstrap hinge.

- Use a T5 Torx driver to unscrew the captive screw securing the headstrap hinge.
- There is a sticker covering this screw. Poke through it with your driver to access the screw.

- Slide the headstrap hinge out of its slot in the Vive and remove it.

Compare your new replacement part to the original part—you may need to transfer remaining components or remove adhesive backings from the new part before installing.
To reassemble your device, follow the above steps in reverse order.
