The laptop will not respond or show any sign of powering up.
Ensure the AC adapter that came with your computer is a genuine HP part. Plug in the adapter and observe whether the charge light is on. If there is no response, try an alternate electrical outlet and/or a different power cable. If there is a response from the alternate adapter but not the original, it is likely that the original adapter is faulty and should be replaced.
When the AC adapter is operating properly, a light on the adapter will come on, and the device is charging. If the laptop only powers on while plugged in, then the battery is defective. Replace the battery using this guide.
Remove all peripheral devices from the computer ports to see if they are causing the problem. These include hard drives, expansion cards, additional monitors, speakers, and mobile phone charging cables, among others. If the computer powers on after the removal of any or all of these devices, consider replacing the peripheral or leaving it out entirely.
While you are working, your computer randomly shuts off without notification.
Clean the laptop by blowing out the dust from around the fan and heat shield, using a can of compressed air or a hair dryer on cool mode. The removal of dust and lint increases the air flow to prevent overheating and allows the fan to run more quietly.
Ensure the fans on the device are properly ventilated. Keep the laptop upright on a sturdy, level surface. Allow for at least 15.25 centimeters (6 inches) of space around each vent.
Check for BIOS updates and install them using instructions in the HP support document Updating the BIOS.
