The computer is on and working, but the display is flickering.
Check for updates on the app you are trying to use. If the app is updated and the screen is still flickering, check with HP to find out if the app may be incompatible.
If the flickering is due to a driver issue, you should check if the task manager is flickering by pressing “CTRL+SHIFT+ESC”. If you notice the task manager is flickering also, then you should update the display driver. Update a device driver by entering “device manager” in the search box on the taskbar and select “Device Manager”. Next press the drop down arrow or double click on “Display adapters”. Right click on each driver and select “Update driver” then “Search automatically for updated driver software”. Finally, if Windows cannot find a new driver, you can look online at the device manufacturers website and follow their instructions.
The computer is on and working, but there are ‘dots’ in random spots on the screen.
Certain pixels could be stuck and look like green, red, or black dots on the screen. One option to fix this is to take a soft cloth and gently rub around the stuck pixel in a circular motion, which could lighten up the dead pixel. Another option is to check if your device is still under warranty. If not, you can replace the display assembly yourself using the guide here.
The camera on your PC does not work or you are receiving an error message when trying to use it in an application.
If the camera is not working you may need to update the driver on it. To update the driver enter “device manager” in the search box on the taskbar and select “Device Manager”. Next press the drop down arrow or double click on “Cameras”. Right click on each driver and select “Update driver” then “Search automatically for updated driver software”. Finally, if Windows cannot find a new driver, you can look online at the device manufacturers website and follow their instructions.
If updating the driver does not resolve the issue and you cannot get the camera to work on any application, then you may need to replace the camera. The camera is a part of the display assembly so you will have to replace the whole display.
The battery life is short or the computer needs to be plugged in, in order to stay running. Computer has been charged, but still will not turn on.
If your charging adapter is plugged in, and the light on the adapter is on, ensure the adapter is connected to the laptop. If your device does not last long after being unplugged from the charging adapter or only powers up when the charging adapter is plugged in, then it is likely your battery needs to be replaced.
If your computer died and will not respond to anything, it is most likely due to a dead motherboard. This is the heart of the PC and the PC will not work if your motherboard is dead. First you should check if the device is under warranty. If the device is under warranty, speak with HP and they will replace the hardware for you. If the device is not under warranty, follow this motherboard replacement guide.
The computer is corrupting data which produced unintended changes to the original data. You are losing files that you did not actually delete.
If the computer is consistently crashing or or creating loud sounds when accessing data, you could be experiencing hard drive failure. We recommend finding an external hard drive or website to upload your data onto. Next follow this guide to replace the SSD.
The computer takes a long time to boot.
You should disable any programs that open on start up, as this slows the boot up process. This is done using task manager. To access the task manager, press “CRTL+SHIFT+ESC”. Once opened, go to the “Startup” tab and see what applications are running on startup. Select any program in the list that you do not need to run on startup and click “Disable”.
The computer runs noticeably slower than it may have in the past.
If your memory is almost full, try deleting some useless files you may not need anymore. After you delete them, empty the recycling bin. This is done by right clicking on your recycling bin and clicking “Empty Recycle Bin”. Ensure you do NOT need the files anymore as they will not be recoverable after emptied from the recycling bin.
Check for updates on the device in the settings.
There could be some applications running in the background that you are not using stealing RAM. Check what apps are running using “Task Manager”. Access the “Task Manager” by pressing “CTRL+SHIFT+ESC”, and from here select programs you are not using and click “End Task”. After this, restart the device.
