For further information to determine if the Heat Sink and Fan needs to be replaced, please refer to this troubleshooting guide.

What you need

Step 1

              Heat Sink and Fan               
  • Turn off the computer.
  • Disconnect the power cord and any external devices connected to the computer.
  • Make sure the device is completely turned off or else you may risk injury through electric shock.

Step 2

  • Flip the device so that the back plate of the laptop is up.
  • Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove the four 6 mm Phillips screws from the bottom cover.
  • You might have to use a spudger to remove any rubber bezels that cover the screws.
  • Pry off the back cover with the spudger tool.

Step 3

  • Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the seven 5 mm screws that secure the fan and heatsink.

Step 4

  • Peel back the retention tape that secures the heat sink assembly.

Step 5

  • Disconnect the fan cable from the connector on the system board.

Step 6

  • Remove the heat sink assembly from the device.

Remove the heat sink assembly from the device.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
